Services

The Town Clerk's office provides many different licenses, certificates, and permits to Town of Pompey residents.

In addition, the Town Clerk has served as the official "Keeper of the Records" for the town since the late 1700s and continues to be the conduit between residents and the Town Board.

We invite you to visit our office. You'll find our courteous staff ready to assist you with these public services:

Birth and death certificates are available from the county office of vital statistics.

Tax Collection

The Pompey Town Clerk also serves as the Town’s Tax Collector. The Tax Collector is responsible for processing property and school taxes collected by Pompey town government along with school taxes for Fayetteville-Manlius and Jamesville-DeWitt School Districts.

Town/county property tax collections are conducted in January and school property taxes are collected in September. Please see our Tax Schedule for critical dates in the tax roll preparation process and for the most current tax due dates as they may have changed from last year.

Paying your taxes

Many homeowners have their property taxes paid from an escrow account through their mortgage company. It is vitally important that you maintain close scrutiny of your property tax payment history even if you do not pay your taxes directly. You and/or your lender are not exempt from the various penalties, fees, and proceedings that become relevant if an error results in the late or non-payment of your property taxes.

Partial payments may be made on your taxes. The first payment must be paid in the penalty-free period and we no longer require 50% of the balance. You can make up to four payments for town and county property taxes. Some school taxes accept partial payments others may not—you will need to contact us to be sure.

Pay online

Online payment notes:

  • When paying online, payment is not immediate. The company cuts a check payable to the Receiver of Taxes and mails it to the tax office. Yes, snail mail.

  • There is no direct deposit of payment. Payment envelopes do not get a U.S. Postal Service postmark, used as date of receipt (Real Property Tax Law 925). Many arrive at the tax office after the due date and must be returned to the property owners with penalties. This makes for unhappy taxpayers.

  • Please contact your bank and verify policy and timing for such payments. We do not want you to be uniformed. If you are going to use this service, you must be sure to have the payment to us by the due date.
